HG RX-75 Guntank
As mentioned in the latest serpent custom build/paint post, I had a night with no plans due to heavy storms. And this was the same day a shipment of HG kits arrived. In between coats of painting, I started the Rx-75 Guntank!
I'm not the BIGGEST fan of the guntank, though I think its fine. I actually slightly prefer the RTX-65 early type from the origin series. By the way, if you haven't seen theSD (super deformed) convergence model (not a kit, just a little model) of the early type, it's ADORABLE.
Its tiny and angry! But I digress - back to the RX-75. The design is ok, I just think the color scheme and blockiness is too "Fisher Price's my first mecha".

But seriously, thats what you get for a design right from like episode 1 or 2 of the first gundam series ever. I mainly got it to help round out my "stuff you'd see in 08th MS" 1/144 collection. That fight with the gouf custom and the guntanks - a highlight of the franchise for sure. I may end up painting it to an urban or jungle color scheme, or just more metallic, who knows. For now, assembly!
As you can see, not a lot here. An ideal quick kit. The tracks bend right over the wheel base, which is neat. They'll probably be really fun to muck up - so many guides have gone into dirtying up tank treads thanks to the miniature army/tanks crowd and the wargamers, theres a guide for whatever effect you want. As my main hobby area is currently set up for the serpent custom build, I've taken this over to the couch with a little folding table, bringing my nippers, knife, and sanding sticks (and just doing any work over the empty box so all the little bits taken off fall right in there neatly, no mess).
I only did a few coats on the serpent custom, so didn't get to spend THAT much time on the guntank, but I still didn't get as far as I wanted to, basically just the base assembled. You see, it turns out each wheel has 3 gates on it. With 7 wheels per side, that 42 gates on curved surfaces. I took my time to carefully cut and sand down so they still looked perfectly curved. It was relaxing and gave me something to do while paint dried, since I always want to paint again too soon instead of letting each coat fully dry.
And thats where we got! I was hoping to get farther, but I'm pretty confident we can still make the build a two parter. We'll see next time!
