HG RB-79 Ball Twin Set

Image
Our little buddy, the unsung hero of the federation, the Ball! Everyone loves the ball! Less a mobile suit and more a worker pod with a extra armor gun slapped on the top (and yes they made later variants slightly more suited to combat). It's not sexy. Its not super powerful. But it's a hell of a cheap support option. First off, they started out with like 1200 already made by converting worker pods, then made more. They were less than 1/4 the cost of even the cheapest mass produced suit. They were hard to hit, extremely small and more mobile than almost all suits, and often had a slightly longer sensor range. Even once the federation mass produced their first mobile suit, they still had balls supporting their MS teams. You can read up more on some valiant but costly battles where immense amount of balls fended off zeon by themselves, or see them in most later OYW space battles. But for now, we're gonna show you this neat little high grade set. Since they...

Red October Meet and Build

Image
Last time I mentioned a meetup, it was checking out the local hobby shops "come and build models (mostly gunpla)" night. Like 10 people around 3 tables in the gaming area of a hobby store. More recently, the local Gunpla specific club held a big meetup I think they do like every other month or so.  There was a theme of"hey bring your red or aquatic suits to show off/build" but you didn't have to, just a suggestion.  Still, I was eager to go, and I had a Lunamaria preordered that MIGHT just make it in on time.  Man, that lunamaria is a sweet looking kit. Sadly, that didn't make it, so on my way over I stopped by the local barnes and noble, the only gunpla store within 25 minutes.  The only reddish kit they had was the Heine Westenfluss Destiny Gundam.  I had never seen the show and wasn't familiar with the person or the suit. Luckily, it looked pretty cool and slighly reddish, so I sprung for it thinking, what the heck. Man am I glad I did. T...

Deciding to go to a local meetup

To take a break from the kit based posts (and let me know if you love those or want more other stuff too): I recently moved to a new city.  None of the closest 3 gaming stores really carried gunpla, it was more the traditional "MTG and card and board games and a few tables and shelves of wargames".   On a lark this weekend I searched for Gunpla near me on facebook and found there's a group that meets to do models (mostly gunpla but some other stuff) every Tuesday about 30 minutes away, maybe 35 with traffic.  The notice said they meet from like 5-8. That's not super far, but I was debating it at it would be a little over an hour travel time for the like 2 hours I could make this week.  I mentioned my hemming and hawing while talking on a discord server, and when I was met with "dude, I would totally drive even further if there was any store that sold gunpla or a meetup near me just to check it out, at least once!".  I realized that's true, I'd be...
