HG RGM-79 Powered GM

Do you enjoy the new standard for mobile suits, but just wish it would jump higher and run faster? Have I got a deal for you.

The RGM-79 Powered GM is a test mobile suit from Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory. Which happens in the Universal Century timeline in 0083, surprise suprise. It's a RGM-79C GM Type C that had test parts added on to it, including a powerful backpack reactor and extra powerful thrusters. In fact, it proved to be such an improvement in mobility that they had to add special shock absorbers to prevent it from breaking its own legs when landing from tall jumps.

At least 2 were made, and Dick Allen showed this suit could out maneuver and beat down a MS-06F2 Zaku II F2 without reaching its limits. Though only intended as test suits, they saw combat trying to retrieve something the Delaz Fleet has stolen in an attack on the base.

Apparently there's one in Build fighters too. I can't speak to it, as I haven't seen that yet (I'm waiting to see more of the regular series so I understand more references in the build fighters series).

First the sprues! I've set them up in a cheapo sprue holder on a side table. Just one little sticker sheet!

The chest piece uses an inner yellow bit instead of relying on stickers, which is a nice touch. With the red piece also being a tiny bit of plastic instead of sticker, I can see how they got this down to such a small sticker sheet. A backpack and a chest came together quickly, and you can see how much extra reactor this actually packs.

The head is a lovable GM design with a nice antenna. Of note is the green clear plastic actually extends up to the top bit. Theres no stickers on the front, both are one connected piece of green clear plastic. The back is a green sticker.

Next is the arm ans and legs. I've put one assembled next to an expoloded view one so you can see how the joints work.

The waist is pretty standard, with the slash mark pads added. The special bit is the V mark in the crotch, which is a stupidly hard to apply sticker, as you have to get it perfect and bend it around a thin protruding V. It does look good from afar, though, just not up close. I'll probably paint it eventually.

Now, we plop it all together for some action shots! This kit is all about the "powered" part of the GM, so the accessories are a pretty basic bazooka, gun, and beam rifle, with a pretty decent shield. The shield is attached by a forearm brace that can go on one of two ways and rotate around. The saber extends up from the back of the backpack.

This kit definitely looks best in a "just jumped up" pose. on an action base.

Another HG GM down! The arm mobility is pretty meh as with other GM of this age (2006), but good enough. the accessories are pretty standard. The real reason to get this kit is you love GMs, love the color scheme, or think the "powered" addons look great. Luckily all three apply to me. It'll be a welcome addition to the shelf.
